What is Pilates & the Reformer
Pilates is a physical fitness system, also known as “contrology”, developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. The benefits of pilates include a body conditioning routine that builds flexibility, core strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back.
It places an emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance.
Pilates’ system allows different exercises to be modified in range of difficulties, from beginner to advanced levels. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.
Our group pilates classes incorporate stretching and strengthening utilising apparatus known as the Reformer. The spring loaded moveable carriage of the reformer provides a core challenge with each and every exercise.
